bullet Topic: Senegalese & Kinky Twist
    Posted: 18 Aug 2004 at 6:19pm

I'm thinking about getting senegalese twist, however my hair is pretty long and I've seen a few kinky twist styles that I really like, my question is can I get a kinky twist style done the senegalese way, and what is the difference between the two styles.  Also can senegalese be treated the same way as individual braids (i.e. can they be washed, I've heard that you really shouldn't get kinky twist wet) Also I would like to go 3 months with the senegalese, but I don't want them to lock or would that only happen with kinky twist, I would like to get them do with whatever hair was done with these and they will probably have to be in the same length. (If you can't see the pick this is the link http://f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/ausetsbraids/detail?.dir=/8 9da&.dnm=184f.jpg

but I would like them in this style,

kinky_braids

but to work with my longer layers, is this possible for a braider to do.

Warning! This is my opinion and my view of twists. I may be wrong.

I think that the difference between senegalese and afro kinky twists is the type of hair and how the hair is put in.  In afro kinky twists the hair is braided an inch before it's twisted and senegalese is started by twisting. I only thing that I can say as far as getting the silky look with an afro kinky style is that your hair might end up being really heavy and won't have the same body as having it done with afro kinky hair. I wouldn't suggest washing it.  Because your hair is twisted it could end up tangled. I was told that there is a certain way that you part your hair to prevent it from locking but I don't think that 3 months is enough for your hair to lock. Hope this helps some way.

I kinda agree with cocoahunni. The kinky twists are cool - i have them in now, but I haven't dared to wash them!! They're too kinky and they tangle up. But I think I've looked after them brilliantly!! Had them in a month and they're still OK.

An extra bag is needed though. Just incase you need to re-braid. Coz when taking the twists out they knot up a little and you may lose some hair.

I'm taking mine out soon been in for about 6 weeks or so. I'd leave them in for no longer that this... They are starting to look a bit fraid and loc like!!!

if you get marley hair you can do twists and have them just as long as the senalgese twists. you can also cut them to whichever length you want. the hair is very long. 24 inches. its the same length as regular kanekaloin braiding hair.
